In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, FloorMall has pledged to donate 2% of their October sales to the revered cancer charity, Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Susan G. Komen foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker and is the largest breast cancer charity in the world. Nancy Brinker named the charity for her only sister who succumbed to breast cancer two years prior at the age of 36. Since its inception, the charity has gone on to raise over one billion dollars and is the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world. A large part of the charity’s success is due to its ability to unite and mobilize businesses, government and volunteers toward the common goal of ridding the world of breast cancer forever. The foundation engages in many fundraising events, most notably the Race for the Cure, which is a series of 5k runs and walks which also serves to raise awareness for the cause.

Web-only retailer Floormall.com is selling online distributor BuildDirect.com’s products through a strategic alliance. The recently formed relationship is a result of a letter to the editor in FCW (Oct. 6, 2008) from Floormall’s founder Marc Henderson on the future of Internet retailing.

“It’s not the store that makes people successful, it’s what they do in the market,” said BuildDirect president and CEO Jeff Booth, paraphrasing Henderson’s remarks in the letter. “I liked Marc’s piece where he identified that, and it’s actually what started this conversation.”
